if someone came to your home off the streets looking for lodging and food... and you fed, sheltered and offered them a friendly/safe environment... and all that you ask of them is to keep their room clean and in order (basically I left messages for him on more than one occasion to fill out his profile properly)... if for many months this person was elusive and kept their room dirty even though you asked them time and again to keep it in order.. then when you have your first one on one encounter with them they act like they were entitled to all your good graces and told you that all that you did for them didn't mean a thing  and  that he could care less about all the assistance that was being provided  ...  would you then allow that person to stay so they could continue to bring down the value of your property or would you remove that person and make room for someone else who brought value to your home?

Its not about the donation guys its all about the negative vibe from the start of the conversation - it goes back to people properly filling out their profile, their energy and contributions… Had this individual said I'm from spain or iran or china i would have sensed that this person was in need of translation software and I would have spoken to him differently and we could have had a more meaningful cohesive conversation... instead in his profile it said he was from "EARTH"... the profile had a slew of smartassy comments not thought provoking ones... I have suspected for a long time that this individual needed to go....

To me it just sounds like an unappreciative attitude, so I do get that part. At the same time, you can't blame people for not paying. I've paid a couple bucks both times but I also realize there is no obligation other than the site going away (which is why I paid b/c I wanted to help myself and others keep this site going). That said, I paid and thousands of others didn't. I'd rather see everyone pay $1 to join and with this many members (not that all would pay)...that $1 would probably keep the site going for several years.

 

And while its only $1, you could even let females join for free, provided they can prove they are females. Anyway, I see what you are saying about the attitude, but again, hard to blame people for not donating when its not mandatory. Just my 2 cents...

I'm not going to pretend like I'm a saint or that I always make the most popular decisions. I will say this. This site is almost 21 months old. My original vision for the site is way more than what I bargained for. Most of it is GREAT and exciting and another portion of it dismal and depressing. You guys just witnessed me in a dark moment where I did not extend my usual respectful social graces which is normally on 99% of the time while on this site. Do I want to convey an image to you guys like I'm a tyrant, a quick trigger prick whos overreactive... well no... but there is a limit to my kindness especially when someone is obviously taking the site for granted.

Dude. Clearly english is not his first language. what you are interpreting as "droll" attitude is his inability to translate in a way that you find appealing. though obvs. he doesn't plan on donating. But yeah. most of the problem was the losing in translation bro :P

Thanks. Now I get your point... but as comrade said, it really seems like a language problem that he can't articulate himself properly (hopefully I do). That he (she?) didn't fill up his (her?) profile is his own fault after staying here for so long.

Matt, I think that asking people to provide any sort of identity proof is out of the question. Therefore, while in theory I do like your idea of making this site a 1 $ fee for men/no fee for women, in practice I fear you're just going to be attracting lots and lots of posers this way.

We have many groups on this site, Italian, French, Chinese, like maybe 30+ some odd countries represented on this site... I created them for a reason.. so that people who were from other countries and spoke other languages could communicate and interact with one another so they could feel at home. This is one of the reasons why in the first profile question I ask people to take it seriously and to tell me where you are from and how many languages you speak.... It helps me to guide these people. No one ever sees the regular behind the scenes communications with such members... I have been known to use translation software to make the other person more comfortable and to guide them. That said it goes back to people properly filling out their profile and their vibe... He knew what he was getting himself into why do you think he smiled like that at the end of the conversation... he was clearly being like that to be difficult. 

 

Michael Goalie Matt Stevers comrade I dig you guys and dont want to disappoint you guys by seeming erratic and seemingly tyrannical.. I can appreciate your feedback and take on what went down... you guys are entitled to voice your opinions, I respect that. The only thing I regret from this engagement was that I did not ask him where he was from or what his native language is... it is normally something I would ask but smart ass is smart ass in any language,  no matter how you read it.

With no backstory, I'd have to say my comments are pretty spot on. But now I do see what you are saying and understand more. I think I would still just require $1 from everyone, that's not much to ask and like I said before, would probably take the site years down the road. Anyway need to get back to sleep haha. Love the site and that's why I paid both times :)
