This is a kick I took in my karate class back in Mid 2007. It happened while sparring a woman I had become friends with through class and had even developed a bit of a crush on. She was in fair shape: maybe 5'3", dirty brown (then) straight hair, athletic figure especially for a mum in her mid 40s. Id seen her in shorts and t-shirts so I knew she had some nice tone in her arms and legs as well. Anyways, we ended being pared up for free sparring. It wasn’t actually a match, just regular class so all the other students were also pared up and sparring at the same time.
We start sparring and both being black belts we start throwing the strikes and kicks fairly fast but pretty controlled. Eventually I start to throw a forward side thrust kick. The instant I do this she steps to the side “behind” me and throws a rising roundhouse kick. With my back effectively now to her I had no chance… never mind that I was in the middle of throwing the kick. Instead of continuing to stomach level as normal, her foot sailed right up into the boys. We dont spar with shoes but we are required to have those foam pads on our feet which made her foot "wider" then normal so it was sure to connect with them. I had foolishly stopped wearing a cup and merely had on the very loose and kinda thin gi pants. Underneath those I had boxerbriefs which simply held them in place when her foot connected. Needless to say I dropped. The pain hit me before I totally processed what just happened. I don’t remember my exact reaction but I do remember trying to stand right after and having that be a total failure. The pain just took over and I had that bad ache in my balls and even that bit of nausea feeling in my stomach. I do know I was on my knees curled over them, forehead on the ground and my hands between my legs over my aching balls. Occasionally I could actually feel her hand gently rubbing my back and she was still there when I got up so she must have stayed with me as I recovered. At the time the pain was a little much to enjoy but looking back it was a kick worth taking.
Apparently I was down a good 5 minutes from what I was told. When I was back on my feet she asked if I was gonna be okay. Once I replied yes she answered with “good. You had me worried for a moment. When you tried to get up right away your face was as green as the mint ice cream we both like.”
The next class we were at she jokingly brought it up again. “I hope you got yourself a cup yesterday. I would probably not be good if you got lit up again like that.”
It was something that came up several times in future conversations too, always jokingly, often her picking on me about it. While she never seemed the BBer type, as many seem to, she certainly did find it amusing. Here are some of the other times it came up:
Summer of 2008 I moved into where I still live and had decided to paint the place.
Me: I’m going to be painting the walls blue and green to go along with the carpet and my furniture.
Her: Not yellows and pinks?
Me: Uh, no, I don’t think so. Although my friend is coming to help me.
Her: Nice to have a friend help out. So, no yellow and pink?
Me: No, you didn’t quite kick me that hard.
Her: That’s a good thing. I’d be a little worried if you went with those colors! Might even feel a little guilty too that I caused you to go with those colors!
In August of 2009 when e-mailing each other about sparring:
Her: I do think it’s the other persons problem if they don’t wear protection. Not smart.
I wrote back: So if it’s the guys fault for not wearing a cup, how come you felt bad?
Her: I still feel the guy should wear a cup however I’m not looking to hurt anyone either. I hope you learned your lesson and are wearing it now.
At one point before class she was there with her husband who was stretching on the floor. She was just throwing some real low (like knee height) just to loosen up a little.
Husband (clearly jokingly): I hope who ever you’re fighting has shin guards
Her: Hey, be nice. I can kick and put a guy on the ground you know.
Husband: I’m already on the ground
Her: Lower. Just ask Seth, he knows.
Me (sarcastically): Me? I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Back June 2010: In karate I ended up with some bruised ribs and mentioned that in an e-mail. Apparently she had the same happen years back so I jokingly forwarded her a link to a breast plate. She then suggested maybe I needed a metal cup for when I had sparred her and I replied with a link to one. The last e-mail about this was her joking “they stole my patent. Now how can I make millions?”
End of Sept 2011, even though she hasn’t been in karate for 3 years now she still takes the cardio class at the studio. There is a tournament coming up in karate at the school and our instructor is letting us have a sparring class for 30 min before class on Thursdays for this month. I knew her favorite part was sparring.
Me: So since you were a black belt here, would you want to jump in one last sparring match if the instructor would let you?
Her: I don’t know. I’m way out of practice but it might be fun. It was the best part.
Me: Well, I’ll ask and see what they say. You were always fun to spar so it would be nice for ol’ time’s sake.
Her: Cool. Let me know what they say. You know I always tried to be respectful but I hope you have a cup on just incase!
July 2014! She had to have foot surgery so I commented to her "You shouldn't be kicking the guys who wear a steel plated cup! It can only end badly for your poor foot!?" She laughed and said back to me "I guess I finally learned my lesson." From there I wrote back and commented "I know it's been years now, but from what you remember, was I the only guy you actually dropped from a low blow? I'm sure other accidents happened but most guys usually do wear protection". Her reply was simply "I think you were the only one not using protection! I sure hope you do now."
As of Jan 2015, Recently I leaned on her shoulder a bit when there was some anxiety for me and a FwB that we might become parents! It all passed and we were clear but before the FwB left town again, we meet up and had some personal fun again. When I mention this, the karate woman and I had the following conversation:
Her: Try birth control. It does work you know.
Me: hah. birth control. is that like taking a solid kick to the balls?
Her: Could be!
Me: lol. luckily i've never ever had that happen in karate, right?
Her: Right! But that's not gonna happen from one hit!
Me: well, then i can't blame you. guess i should be lucky i wear protection now! Maybe not at the time, but looking back it was just foolish of me and bad (or good?) timing for you. can't help but just laugh
Her: Prob good timing lol!
Me: hahaha! Gee, thanks a lot!
June 2021 - Two recently now that things are getting back to normal slowly.
So and I had been out of touch a bit, but with her birthday this year I messaged her and we've been chatting here and there again. With Covid starting to wind down and MA easing up, we are allowed contact in karate again. I made a joke about having to get used to wearing a cup again:
Her: I think you'll get used to it. Easier than getting used to the alternative?
Me: That's for sure. They aren't that bad, it wont take more than a class or two. Probably like a bra or sports bra, you get used to it after not too long.
Her: You say that. Can I shoot who ever invented bras? At least you only wear that for class.
Me: True. Couple hours at most.
Her: See, not so bad. Makes me wonder why guys would take the chance and not!
Me: Yeah, it is a bit foolish. Myself included, way back when.
Her: I remember. Glad you learned!
Me: Gee thanks. I wasn't at the time! Hah!
Another when we were specifically talking about sparring last week or so
Me: We'll probably ease back into it as no one has been making contact in over a year.
Her: Glad they're starting off slowly. Everyone is probably a little rusty.
Me: Yeah, they're making it work. Speaking of which, it's been so long, I probably need to dust off my sparring gear. It hasn't been used since before all this.
Her: Make sure you prep ALL gear, right? No repeats?
Me: Don't worry. I'm good there.
Her: Good!
Comment
She's not properly measured, sized and fitted if complaining about bra comfort
Great story! I wonder how the story might have changed if she knew you liked it... Lol
I LOVE the 2007 kick...AMAZING. Foot pads to make them wider...OUCH!!
Hah, Mal, she has no idea and I very much plan to keep it that way! I just love that it does get brought up now and again. Often it's me but she jokes about it then too.
Wonder what she would think if she knew you were keeping a bb diary about her, teehee :D
maybe I should start taking some karate classes... get all warmed up for future endeavours
Oh wow that's hot, having a mature woman to kick you that way!
Too bad there wasn't anymore kicking really..But I guess it's hard enough to ask a girl to kick you in the nuts, especially a married one!
Good story though, she seems very playful and actually liked the fact that she brought a guy down!
I wonder if secretly you weren't happy to get busted, just waiting for a sexy 40 something with the hell of a kick to connect.
This is such a cool story! i am into martial arts myself (female) and i love sparring. Thosethings can happen, but in our gym we do have to wear groin guards both men and women. The women version is of course different. the women also wear special bra's with a protector build in.
