- During my final year, I took a scene study Acting elective in college. The teacher was pretty knowledgeable and assigned me and a junior girl a scene from a play called Fool for Love by Sam Shepard. At the end of the scene, which was mostly an argument, there is a stage direction that the female character is supposed to pretend to go in for a kiss and then fake my character out with a knee to the groin. It said something like, “he collapses like a ton of bricks.” I remember a lot of the students took the course very seriously and rehearsed a lot outside of class hours. My partner and I looked at it as just a bit of fun and did pretty much the bare minimum. I remember the day of our final performance, she kept teasing me, “I’m warning you! I have really bad aim! I’m just warning you!” To make matters worse, she was an extremely cute girl with a pixie haircut. I remember putting a good effort into the performance. I was getting into it, she went in for the kiss and then, instead of faking it, I felt the full on force of her knee into my ballsack. I made something like an “OOOF!” sound and gradually sunk to my knees. The class was 2/3 female and I remember thunderous applause and laughter. However, the teacher was a man and I remember he asked to speak with her in the hall while I remained limp on the ground. We could hear him from inside chastising her that this was only practice and that she needed to be more cautious. I slumped back to my seat, another girl patted my hair and after that, we never discussed it again. I just thought — boy, women can get away with anything! Lmao
