I stumbled on this tweet:

"Fun fact: according to EEGs places on BDSM scene participants by the Science of BDSM lab in Chicago, one of the only times a brain “shuts down” more than during an org*sm is a man being ballbusted. It’s like a reverse org*sm. "

If anyone has a link that that study that would be great. The site scienceofbdsm.com now just redirects to a google login sadly. I know Science of BDSM had some great stuff but it looks like it shut down.

No problem.

I sure wish, would love to see some real science instead of hokey explanations about mothers and ancient greek mythological characters that explain nothing.

I found a psychology today article where the researcher said he ran that now defunct site, so I looked him up. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Brad_Sagarin

Don't have time to go through all of these journals and none of them might be the one, but it's a start.

Thanks! And I agree. The amount of BS around BDSM/BB is insane so I love seeing it tested properly.

Me too! Do you have any other information about the science of ballbusting?

Alex Boese wrote a book on weird experiments which included a testie-pain scale

https://neatorama.com/2012/06/05/the-top-ten-strangest-self-experim...

"650 grams caused severe pain on the right side of the body.......his produced the interesting finding that, even though they eventually numbed what they believed to be every nerve leading to the testes, they couldn't entirely abolish the pain of compression. "

I would love to read that study but yeah, it looks like it could be fake or the "study" could have been a two line statement or hypothesis, not a real study.  I remember back around 2000 reading a true psychology/scientific article titled something like "Kids Who Get Hit in the Groin Suffer from Low Self Esteem".  It describes who school age kids who get kicked in the groin can suffer emotional and psychological effects because of extreme pain, embarrassment, "losing" the fight, being made fun of by classmates, etc....  Wish I could find it I could understand it/appreciate it so much more now.

“Kicked below the belt. No laughing matter.” Published in re-act magazine sometime between 1996 and 2001, i remember reading that too!

Wow man you have a iron memory lol, I should be able to find it for sure now.

I paraphrased that title. I doubt it’s verbatim accurate. But “re-act” magazine was like an 8page “insert” aimed at teen readers which would be part of the Sunday newspaper when I was a teenager. (Those years) (only a good memory for topics we obsess over)

;)

Ok sounds good, I looked up "Re-Act" magazine even that was hard to find information on but it was a insert in the PARADE part of the Sunday news.  Somewhere I am sure there is a archive but it's not there with just a basic online search, I'll keep trying here and there usually those things eventually turn up lol.

There was a large (n=2000) study done in the mid 90s though it was about much more than just self-esteem. Here's the paywalled link but I'm pretty sure you can find a free version somewhere if you dig around. I might even have a pdf of it saved somewhere as I first read this quite a few years back now...

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/392236

I could rant about the choice of words in the title of the study (though they do justify it in the article), but it's been a long week so I'll save that for later..

--edit--behold, google found a scan of it in pdf

Congratulations Lexme, you have clearly found the definitive study we’ve been discussing. Great job!
Chris, don’t waste any more effort trying to find the “re-act” article. We are clearly all sophisticated adults here, and the only thing the “react” article had been was like a “three paragraph summary” designed to explain the key points of Lexme’s discovered study to teenage readers.
