I can see we have a nice little community here with lots and lots of members, I would like to know if any of you could recommend a great computer to buy, I'm open to any suggestions. I already know about how great MACs are and about Toshiba laptops, but I'm looking for a good decktop PC. Thanks.

I have a Core 2 Duo 2*30 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 280 1 GB - If your tagret is to play games - that's just what you need.
As for Hard drive, try Western Digital Velociraptor - the fastest in the world. I have only ordinary western digital WD1500ADFD
No her needs are very basic... she's a PC girl and she uses MS office for work... she wants to surf the web and do basic computing tasks... nothing fancy.... what do you suggest in the PC line?
Thank you, I know Tiger direct quite well, I wasn't too sure they were the bet place to look for computers. Have you had success there?
well, if you're looking for something basic, even a 300 dollar desktop would be fine for you to surf the web and use ms office, no problem.

a guy in another forum bought this:
3 Gb ram, 250 GB hard drive, Celeron 2.2 GHz processor, 15.6" monitor. 321 after tax.

the only thing i find bad about that is the celeron processor, always try and get the best processor available for your budget! but as long as you don't open up photoshop cs4 or some hardcore program that one will be fine :)

----buy from a store that offers long term warranties! computers, even good ones, break easily through software and hardware malfunctions, so a warranty is a great backup. futureshop and best buy have really good warranties, but make sure to check whereever you're buying from has one!
Thank you,

My budget is closer to the $1000.00, probably something I should have mentioned. I was actually looking for a manufacturer or builder name with a good reputation. I do have a Best But close, I walked in there and it seems they're quite a bit more pricey then what I've seen on line for similar products. Thank you very much for the help, I'm going to give Best Buy a second look and compare prices again. After Christmas of course LOL.
HAHA why didnt you say so!

MAKE SURE YOU DONT GET CELERON PROCESSOR, GO FOR PENTIUM DUAL CORE OR SOMETHING!

Toshibas good, Dell is fantastic, but they're hard to upgrade, I'm a big fan of SONY.
Thank you, I'll keep those names in mind, I definitely won't go to the Celeron Processor. Toshiba makes a good desk top too? I know Dell is good, but not too familiar w/ Toshiba desk tops.
my advice is if you have the time try to build one yourself its not horribly difficult
I'd give that a try, but i don't have the time.
how exactly is dell fantastic they put hidden crap on the motherboard so you cant install any operating system you didnt get from them and in a desktop rather than having two or three fans like a sensibly designed computer they put an absurdly large heatsink that you might accidentally move out of place if you try to change or repair anything and a single fan directly at the vent which will pull heat away from the cpu but it wont do shit to circulate air within the pc which while it isnt essential is EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!
details like this are important... thanks jen.

Many people are not tech savvy like you or me... Can you offer some advice on a basic PC ,any PC that you recommend.... that uses MS office... surf the web and do basic computing tasks. Thats it pretty much.
i dont really have a recommendation to be honest im just mainly trying to explain what not to get all computer manufacturers suck pretty much dells are worthless i know i have one and will never get another one and by the ways macs are overrated as well and overpriced beyond that theyre all pretty similar i think but then ive heard good things about hp from people who actually know about these things
