Hello there. This is sort of the male side of the current question "did you have a talk with your parents" which is weighted a bit more toward the females.

So, just as the title says, I was curious to know how the guys on this board first learned that it hurt to get hit in the nuts.  Was it personal experience, seeing it happen or simply being warned/told about it?  How old were you, who told you and what did you think?

For me it was back when I was around 7-8.  I had a friend in karate and that's when I started too.  Not long into it we had to wear a "dick protector" (back then neither of us had ever taken a low blow and didn't quite realize it was our balls that were what needed protecting).  I even still remember going to the sports store with me dad, where it was.. although I forget the name as it's been replaced by a Walgreens.  Eventually in class we certainly learned that it can hurt as techniques started showing up with more strikes there.

In 3rd grade I also remember hearing one of the big girls (a 5th grader) did it to one of the other 3rd graders and that he simply fell down in tears.  I didn't see it happen but remember thinking "glad it wasnt me"

Two words:  bicycle wreck!
As a kid of maybe 10 a sport accident that left me unconscious due to the severity of the bust.

i personally grew up watching wwe during the prime of the 'attitude era'. for those who don't know, it was basically the time period where both the language and the physicality were crude, brutal, and even more over-the-top than wrestling normally is/was. if there were a moment where an opposing man and woman were in the ring, a shot to the balls was almost a guarantee and the guys were pretty much incapacitated by it.

I think this question is confused for  "How did you realize JUST HOW MUCH IT ACTUALLY HURTS ?"

If we're talking just general knowledge of that area being sensitive, I can't seem to remember ever not being aware of that. It's like your eyes being sensitive. You don't really need to have that explained to you but of course, only when you get poked yourself is when you realize just how much that sucks, right ?

It could go that way too.  To be honest I dont remember knowing it hurt before that time I heard about it and finding out we needed protection in karate.  Both were well before I took a hit myself.  Sure I was pretty young though and don't remmeber a ton of details from back then.

So I'll open it up... how did you realize just how bad it actually hurts?  :)

OK, well maybe it's all that Football (Soccer) I used to watch since a very young age. Whenever there was a free kick the guys standing some 9 meters (~30 feet) away trying to block the shot would always put their hands on their balls. Maybe I just figured that if protecting your balls is more important than protecting your face, there must be something quite special down there :)
